Armed robbery suspects held

A further man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Newton Mearns.

Barry Mallon, 29, was caught by police yesterday after allegedly carrying out the raid on Wednesday November 2.

Mallon is accused of robbing a post office in Newton Mearns alongside Craig Sutton, 28, who is currently in custody.

The duo allegedly threatened staff with a gun before firing a shot, although it was not aimed at anyone.

Nobody was injured in the raid but the culprits made off with a four-figure sum of money.

Mallon appeared on petition in Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday, accused of assault and robbery. He made no plea or declaration.

The case has been continued for further examination, the accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in due course.
